Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What kind of song should I bring to auditions?

Any songs you are comfortable with are acceptable, but please choose a song that will show off your vocal skills.

  1. What can I do if I can’t afford the fees for choir?

Most students who cannot afford to pay for their choir fees choose to work selling concessions at the Civic Center or get a sponsor.

  1. How many performances are there in a year?

The OPHS Singers serve not only their school but also their community and many times the choir is asked to perform outside the school as well.

It is impossible to count how many times you may be asked to sing however our students are ready and willing.

  1. Since I am only allowed ten absences from school will I fail my classes due to excessive absences?

Any performances that are choir related are excused absences and are not counted against you.

  1. What if I choose not to try out for all-state or honor choir?

Since we spend a large amount of class time preparing for these competitions then I do encourage my students to tryout.  You will be tested on the music if you choose not to tryout and you will receive the grade the choir director feels you have earned.  If the student attends the competition then you will not have to tryout for the choir director.

  1. What if I cannot attend the performances?

It is mandatory that you attend all performances unless special permission has been obtained by the choir director in advance.  If a student fails to attend a performance then that student will be dropped from choir.

  1. What if I attend the performance and I am not in uniform?

You will not be allowed to perform.

  1. Can a ninth grade student be in advanced choir?

We do not allow ninth grade girls and boys in the advanced choir unless they have auditioned and show exceptional singing abilities.

  1. What if I have misplaced or damaged my formal uniform?

Any student who damages a uniform or fails to return the uniform in good condition will be asked to replace the uniform for full replacement value.
