| OPHS Choirs |
| Beginner Girls Ensemble |
| The Ouachita Beginner Girls Ensemble is mainly composed of female voices
who are interested in being in the Advanced Choir. This choir provides incoming freshmen women
with the opportunity to study the basic vocal and sight reading techniques to prepare them for
competition. The Beginner Girls Ensemble competes annually in the Southern Choral Classic,
ACDA All-state, and LMEA Convention. In addition to these competitions they are required to
perform in the annual Christmas and Spring Concert. The Beginner Girls Ensemble is open to
all first year students in grades nine through twelve. |
| Advanced Choir |
| The OPHS Singers are made up of primarily advanced students who are serious
about continuing their studies in vocal music. This course consists of learning advanced vocal
and sight-reading techniques. They compete at the State and District level. The advanced choir
competes in the LMEA and ACDA Solo and Large Ensemble Competition where they have received superior
ratings in both performance and sight-reading. In addition, they perform in the annual Christmas
and Spring Concert. The Ouachita Choir offers scholarship awards for outstanding seniors.
This is prestigious choir with a reputation for being one of the best in the state. The OPHS
Singers recently performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. |
| Mixed Ensemble |
| This class is made up of students who perform with the Advanced Choir in
all competitions. In addition to their annual competitions the students are
expected to perform at all concert performances. |
| Audition Process |
| The Ouachita Choir auditions consist of singing vocal warm-ups, major scales
and sight-reading. Students are required to prepare and sing at least one selection from memory. |
